The Stoves in Ndondol, Senegal

"I am proud of having one," says this woman

The economical cooking stove is a wonderful project in Ndondol, Senegal. The women’s thirst to have one of these stoves motivates us to provide more for all the women around us. The Kinderwerk Mission from Germany has very kindly provided finance for 700 stoves. The stoves help women in a variety of ways. By using these stoves the amount of wood required is reduced so the women do not need to go very far to hunt for wood which is scarce. Those who use these stoves have fewer fire incidents so burns are reduced. The stove also keeps the meal warm. The women are really delighted to have one. In the words of one woman "it is like gas, very efficient." They have not enough words to thank all those who have helped them to have one!  We are able to increase awareness of ecological issues as these stoves help us to focus attention on the need to preserve our trees and we estimate that each stove can save 10 – 15 trees in a year or at the most two!
