St. Benedict's Creche, Chittagong, Bangladesh
St Benedict's Creche in Chittagong is a ministry which was started on the arrival of the first sisters with our Foundress, Euphrasie Barbier at the time of its establishment in 1883. Today Sister Bibiana pictured on the left with the children, fulfils the role of Directress and she follows a long line of carers at the crèche who provide a loving home for these babies until they are 5 years old.
The children include some who have been abandoned or who have been put into the care of the Sisters because of the death of one or both parents. Once the boys turn five the sisters try to find a sponsor to cover the cost of hostel fees. The girls transfer to St Peter's Orphanage which is on the same site as the créche. The créche children attend St. Scholastica's Kindergarten and those in St Peter's Orphanage, go to St Scholastica's Girls' High School. The créche and the orphanage are home.
