Translation

The Sister's arrived in Western Canada in 1898.  At present they are in 10 cities/towns in the  Prairie Provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

Canada is noted for its four distinct seasons:  spring -  new life bursting forth after the long, cold winter, the return of the birds and slow awakening of the animals in hibernation; summer - relaxation, beaches, fishing, and warmth; fall/autumn - the brilliant colors, the slow dying of leaves and plants as they prepare for winter,   birds flocking and flying to warmer climates; winter - short days, -30 temperatures, snow and indoor warmth and gatherings, bare trees, animals in hibernation sleeping through the long, cold winter days.

RNDM's in Canada see their call to Mission amongst the people reflected in the seasons.  We are called to serve and gently walk with people in each season of their life.

RNDM MISSION SOLIDARITY PROJECT 2004

Rent for one year for a refugee family of 4.

Hospitality House Refugee Ministry Inc sponsors refugees, mainly from various war-torn African countries. Many of those sponsored, if they have no relatives or friends in Canada, initially live at Hospitality House and when they have worked for two or three months and can be independent, the Ministry sets them up in their own apartments which  have been furnished and provisioned for them.

The Ministry pays the initial deposit and the first month’s rent and provides the refugee with clothing, especially winter clothing and footwear. Others who are sponsored by the Ministry are looked after by family or friends, but frequently the Ministry has to help these also, especially with winter clothing.

Hospitality House is responsible for the newcomers for one year, so if the refugees become sick or lose their jobs, the Ministry has to resume support for them. The Ministry tries to keep in touch with the newcomers regularly for the duration of their first year.

During 2003 Hospitality House was instrumental in bringing two hundred and fifty-one new residents to Winnipeg.

The RNDM Solidarity Goal to help this project in 2004 is US$5000

Donations to support this project can be made to any Sister of Our Lady of the Missions.
