VOCATIONS
There are usually five stages involved in formation to
the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions.
- Aspirant or
Candidate
- Postulant
- Novice - 1st and 2nd year
- Junior Professed or Temporary Professed
- Final Profession
Myanmar describes these various stages in the following
way:
Aspirant: They are given opportunities to
extend their education and work with the Sisters. They live in the Formation House
and continue to study catechetics.
Postulant: After having completed their
standard education or some sort of training or work experience, if they request, we accept
them as postulants. During this time we help them with the programme of proper
personal development, English, music, handwork, catechism, introduction to the life of our
Congregation and the life of Mother Foundress and an introduction to the Prayer of the
Church.
Novices: While continuing their lessons in
English, music, handwork and personal development, there is more explanation on the
Constitutions and Vowed life. Scripture and Prayer are also stressed.
2nd Year Novices are sent out to different houses for various lengths of time (depending
on the country) for their apostolic period. All the time while in the Novitiate, all
young women help by accompanying Sisters to the villages nearby.
Junior/Temporary professed: While they are
sent out to the Mission they are given further formation courses during the year at least
two months together or follow courses. This period of formation usually lasts 6
years. In some countries part of this time is spent on an overseas mission.
Final Profession: A Sister who is Professed
takes the Vows of chastity, poverty and obedience. They also keep in mind Mother
Foundresses desire for all RNDM's to vow to zeal.
