Report from Myanmar <from Sister Noreen> Activities at Euphrasie Centre for Rural Women

1. Fowl rearing generates income.

Myanmar keeping away mosquitoesAt Euphrasie Centre in Pyay the Sisters started a fowl-rearing project in order to train the young rural women who come to the Centre and to generate further income for the Centre. RNDM Solidarity funding in 2001 enabled them to set this project up as a small commercial venture. One of the workers writes: “I am San San. I am a paid worker for the fowl rearing at Euphrasie Centre. I am benefiting by having a job and by learning the skills of looking after the fowls, measuring out the daily food and medicine, and keeping them clean and healthy. I am happy to be learning the knowledge and skill of fowl rearing.”  The sale of eggs throughout the year has brought in more than US$3000 – a considerable help towards maintaining our Euphrasie Centre for training rural women.      Many thanks to each of you, from us all here in Myanmar.

Report From the Philippines

1. Seawall Health Project <from Helen Currie>

Seawall health projectThe poor fishing families of Seawall live in a precarious situation on the coast where there is no sewage system available. Water for drinking, washing etc is carried from a common faucet. During 2001 RNDM Solidarity helped them to make a dream come true – 10 toilets, with space for bathing, have been built to serve their community of 17 families!!

One of the women says “ In the health classes conducted by Sister Helen we shared the fact that we did not have any toilet except the sea. We are very thankful to God, then to the RNDM Sisters, for our new comfort room [toilet]. We share out comfort room with the people next door; it has helped to improve our health condition and affords us some privacy.”
