Report from
1. Fowl rearing generates income.
At
Euphrasie Centre in Pyay the Sisters started a fowl-rearing project in order to train the
young rural women who come to the Centre and to generate further income for the Centre.
RNDM Solidarity funding in 2001 enabled them to set this project up as a small commercial
venture. One of the workers writes: I am San San. I am a paid worker for the fowl
rearing at Euphrasie Centre. I am benefiting by having a job and by learning the skills of
looking after the fowls, measuring out the daily food and medicine, and keeping them clean
and healthy. I am happy to be learning the knowledge and skill of fowl rearing. The sale of eggs throughout the year has brought in
more than US$3000 a considerable help towards maintaining our Euphrasie Centre for
training rural women. Many thanks to each of you, from us all here in

leaves at dusk to help keep the mosquitoes away. Because of the fishponds the mosquitoes
are large and often malaria carriers.
2. Daily Life at Euphrasie Centre
There is plenty of variety in the learning for these young rural women training with our Sisters in Pyay.

1. Seawall Health Project <from Helen Currie>
The poor fishing families of Seawall live in a
precarious situation on the coast where there is no sewage system available. Water for
drinking, washing etc is carried from a common faucet. During 2001 RNDM Solidarity helped
them to make a dream come true 10 toilets, with space for bathing, have been built
to serve their community of 17 families!!
One of the women says
In the health classes conducted by Sister Helen we shared the fact that we did not
have any toilet except the sea. We are very thankful to God, then to the RNDM Sisters, for
our new comfort room [toilet]. We share out comfort room with the people next door; it has
helped to improve our health condition and affords us some privacy.

ones
RNDM Solidarity helped with funds for teaching resources and to
pay a young Filippina woman to help. Now there are two sessions
each day, for 40 children all told. Otherwise underprivileged, these children are getting
some early learning skills and socialization which is giving them a better start to life.
1. Tailoring Class for Dropouts at Amalapuram.
We conduct tailoring classes for the
school/college dropouts and unemployed women of the area. The course lasts for six months
and about 150 women have successfully completed their course. Most of them can then get
jobs, or work for themselves.

2. Child
Labourers celebrate Independence Day, Almel
Education is the key to building awareness, self-reliance
and self-sufficiency. So we have developed a literacy programme for child labourers
in the hopes of creating a desire for education amongst the people of Almel..
