International Day of the Girl Child

🌍 During the Covid-19 pandemic, girls around the world faced disproportionate impacts: emotional distress due to isolation, uncertainty about the future, domestic violence. The interruption of schooling and limited access to technology increased the risk of dropping out, widening already existing inequalities.

These insights stem from our 2022 research “How are the Girls”, conducted with the @Salesian Sisters, @Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd sisters, Comboni Sisters and RNDM Sisters in #India, #Nepal, #SouthSudan, #Kenya, #Ecuador and #Peru. Behind these findings, there are stories, faces and voices. Voices of girls who told us loud and clear: we want to actively participate, contribute, and lead change ourselves. To respond to their cry, the 4 Congregations designed the “Multi-Congregational Observatory to advance girls’ rights: a joint effort to bridge the digital divide and guarantee girls’ mental health”, with the crucial support of @Misean Cara.

This year, the International Day of the Girl Child is a powerful call to see girls for their limitless potential. Across the world, they are catalysts for change, demanding their rights and organizing their communities. Through the multi-congregational project, we not only hear girls’ voices but act upon them, ensuring access to quality digital learning, empowering them to shape their own futures and advocate for change 💫
