A REED BROOM

Beloved Jesus!

Today, just like every day, I carry out the simple daily tasks of a novice. I think of the house of Nazareth long ago, where You also learned to live as a human being through the quiet, ordinary routines of each day. You began the salvation of humanity through those simple tasks, through that humble life.

I hold the broom in my hands, each stroke moving with steady rhythm. Silently, it serves without complaint or weariness, embracing its humble duty. It gives itself completely to bring cleanliness to its surroundings. It reminds me of humble service. Through this simple broom, I am allowed to take part in God’s work of creation. For the very moment I take up the broom is the moment I bring cleanliness into the world, the moment I offer my love to God, and the moment I can help in the salvation of souls—just as the Little Saint Teresa once became holy through her small, hidden acts.

Lord, You have placed this broom in my hands to sanctify my day. Grant me the grace to “do small things with great love, to do ordinary things with extraordinary love,” and to live a life that is both fully human and deeply sacred. May my feet remain on the earth, while my heart is always lifted toward heaven.
