It is our passion for RNDM mission that inspires us to want to participate in the RNDM worldwide mission activity.
Fifty-six years ago, the Australia Province responded to the request of the then Bishop of Mendi Firmin Schmitt and sent sisters into the newly opened mission in the Southern Highland of PNG. In 1969 four sisters from Australia joined the American Capuchins. Initially the four settle in Ialibu and Pangia replacing Australian lay missionaries in primary and vocational schools, later some sisters moved into pastoral ministry, nursing, seminary training in Madang and tertiary Education in Pr. Moresby.
Over forty-two years a number of RNDM sisters from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Bangladesh, the British Isles and Ireland contributed to the mission, some staying for many years. The last sister leaving in 2011. It is heartening to see how the Church and the faith of the people has flourished.
In October the first Papua New Guinean, Blessed Peter To Rot will be canonized in Rome on October 19, 2025. He was a heroic catechist who continued his pastoral work during World War 11 against the wishes of the Japanese. He was imprisoned and killed by lethal injection.
