For the indigenous people of the Central Highlands, traditional culture is not just a precious treasure; it is the soul of their ethnic community—an invaluable heritage that they are eager to preserve and pass down through generations. In daily life, the men and boys of the Central Highlands take pride in demonstrating their skills through weaving, hunting, and resonant gong beats that echo through the vast forests. Meanwhile, the women and girls enrich these traditions with their elegant Xoang dances, colourful textiles, and adept management of their households. Unfortunately, many of these unique cultural features gradually fade over time.
Working alongside the Bahnar ethnic community has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of their captivating cultural characteristics and discover the hidden potential within each individual. With encouragement, motivation, and various forms of support, the Bahnar people are striving to preserve the beauty of their culture and traditions. The image of elders patiently teaching the younger generation how to play the gongs and perform Xoang dances during festivals is a touching reminder of the continuity of these cherished values.
Among those values, their spirit of mutual support, solidarity, and sharing is perhaps the most admirable and continues to spread within the community. Despite life’s challenges and hardships, these beautiful qualities are nurtured, sustained, and strengthened in every individual, like a warm light guiding them through adversity and toward a brighter future.
